COVID-19 Recovery

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have impacted the communities in which our members operate.

SACOME are proud of the support resources companies are providing to the broader community through targeted COVID-19 initiatives, and we recognise these contributions:

  • BHP has established a $50 million Vital Resources Fund to support host communities surrounding its Australian operations
  • Procured over 150 face masks to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Clinic at Andamooka.
  • Delivering essential hygiene products to local medical services in Roxby Downs and Andamooka, South Australia
  • ($7.59 million funding) for two new COVID-19 testing facilities in Central Queensland

BHP has also committed to:
  • The BHP Foundation has committed $3 million (AUD) to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 with support for two world-leading research institutions based in Australia. The Foundation will provide $2 million to support the University of Queensland (UQ), and $1 million to The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Melbourne.
  • Deliver $100 million into small, local and Indigenous businesses by accelerating and reducing payment terms to seven days (from 30 days)
  • Employ a further 1,500 people to support its Australian operations

  • Epic continue to support Foodbank SA through their charity partnership. They have continued to support suppliers and their CEO has personally reached out to some of their sole traders/small businesses in these difficult times.

Picture
  • OZ have set aside $4m for a stakeholder support program for the COVID-19 period. This goes towards supporting the resilience and sustainability of their key stakeholders in the areas OZ operate around the world.

  • Senex has shortened payment terms to 14 days or sooner for the more than 400 smaller businesses who support our operations in the Cooper and Surat Basins.
