The lack of adequate infrastrcuture to enable South Australia to reach its mining potential remains a strong focus on SACOME's agenda.

2011 Infrastructure Demand Study
The Resources & Energy Sector Infrastructure Council (RESIC) was formed by the South Australian Government after recommendations from a resources infrastructure demand study conducted by SACOME in 2007. RESIC provides an advisory role to Government and a coordinating function between government and private sector on complex resources and energy infrastructure matters by:
* Creating a close working relationship between the resources sector and government on planning and infrastructure development
* Coordinating the collection of accurate data to support the planning of a viable, fit-for-purpose infrastructure
* With the resources sector, foster cooperation across companies to maximise the value of infrastructure that is developed in order to minimise its duplication.
Two represenatives from SACOME, John Roberts, President, and Jason Kuchel, Chief Executive Officer, sit on the Council.
RESIC engaged Parsons Brinckerhoff to undertake the 2011 Infrastructure Demand Study with the aim of identifying the strategic infrastructure needs for the South Australian resources sector over the next 10 years and beyond.
The five recommendations outlined in RESIC's Consultation Paper include:
1: Facilitate the development of infrastructure corridors and utility hubs through a master planning process
2: Facilitate the development of three deep sea ports that can be supported by rail augmentation and road infrastructure
3: Facilitate the acceleration of the proposed 275KV electricity transmission augmentation in the Eyre Peninsula to meet mining industry needs
4: Undertake detailed mapping to identify ground water resources and potential extractable volumes at key identified areas to assist mining industry growth
5: Assist in promoting investment opportunities in resources infrastructure to the national and international market

Funding for a Bulk Commodities Port
South Australia's resources sector is pushing for a deep-water port for cape sized vessels. Without such a facility, the emerging iron ore province in the north of the State goes without a cost-effective means of export.
SACOME continues to lobby the State Government to consider underwriting tonnages for the first 5 years of a deep-water operation at Port Bonython in the Upper Spencer Gulf to attract investment. SACOME has presented to the Government on this issue, and will continue working to see Port Bonython come to fruition.
