The passing of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA) (WHS Act) follows months of contested debate amongst politicians and key stakeholders. The new legislative regime will replace the current Occupational Health Safety and Welfare Act 1986 on 1 January 2013. The WHS Act brings with it a number of key changes to SA’s OHS legislative landscape. In order to secure the Bill’s recent passage through Parliament, several amendments were made to SA’s version of the Act.
The Heart Foundation has created posters specific to the mining industry depicting important steps and advice when faced with a potential heart attack situation. It gives provision for an internal emergency number to be added to the poster, as well as maintaining the message of calling 000 when 'in town'. The awareness posters are available free for mining companies to print off and use within their sites.

The only interstate team of the seven teams who competed, Perilya from Broken Hill narrowly edged out teams from Kingsgate’s Challenger mine, OZ Minerals’ Prominent Hill, BHPBilliton’s Olympic Dam, UraniumOne’s Honeymoon and Terramin’s Angas Zine mine on the weekend of 28 – 29 April, to send the trophy across the border for the first time.
