Recommendations on new mining laws for SA
The South Australian Chamber of Mines & Energy (SACOME) welcomes today's release of the Leading Practice Mining Acts Review document - 'Benefits for All'.
SACOME is pleased with the consultation process undertaken by the Department of Premier & Cabinet (DPC) and supports the release of this document as the next stage of the review.
The document outlines proposed changes to the Mining Act which have been developed through consultation with various industry bodies.
The recommendations call for increased transparency, improvements to environmental protection, and better opportunities for mining and exploration companies in South Australia.
"The document is another step in the right direction towards having an Act that is workable for all stakeholders. SACOME supports these steps to modernising this important piece of legislation" said Rebecca Knol, CEO SACOME.
"SACOME is committed to working together with other sectors to ensure that mining and agriculture can sustainably co-exist. The proposed legislation is key to enabling economic development of the State's mineral resources and we are committed to initiatives that encourage multiple and sequential land use."
