SACOME overJOYed at State Government Commitment to Bridge Duplication

The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy has been lobbying the State Government to address infrastructure bottlenecks to ‘open-up’ the north and west of South Australia to boost economic productivity.

Today’s announcement by Stephen Mullighan MP, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure on the State Government’s commitment share of the $200 million duplication of the Joy Baluch AM Bridge in Port Augusta is welcome news.

The transport corridor in and around Port Augusta is one of Australia’s most strategically important, as Port Augusta is the hub of South Australia’s mineral rich far north and western regions. With mining developments in the region on the upturn, it is unquestionable that more pressure will be placed on this corridor.

Rebecca Knol CEO SACOME said “The duplication of the Joy Baluch Bridge will create efficiencies and eliminate some of the restrictions currently in place that require oversized and heavy vehicles to detour as well as provide benefits to the community”.

SACOME calls on the Federal Government to favourably evaluate investment in this project.
