SACOME welcomes new Cabinet

The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) welcomes the new Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, the Hon Matt Canavan MP, in the new look Turnbull Cabinet.

SACOME looks forward to working with the new Minister and briefing him on the pivotal role that resources plays in South Australia and the role of the Federal Government in enhancing opportunities in this sector.

SACOME Chief Executive, Mr Jason Kuchel said “I look forward to meeting with the Hon Matt Canavan MP and discussing synergies between SACOME and the Federal Government as we look to long term prosperity for South Australia and the nation.”

SACOME would also like to thank the outgoing Minister, the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP and congratulate him on his new role in the Cabinet, as the Minister for the Environment and Energy.

“Mr Frydenberg’s work as the Resources and Energy Minister did not go unnoticed in South Australia. His preparedness to listen to our industry and act on matters of importance held him in high regard,” said Mr Kuchel.

Most notably, SACOME lobbied the Minister to include South Australia in the Exploring the Future program where Geoscience Australia received an extra $100m to be spent on mapping minerals, energy and groundwater potential in northern Australia and South Australia.

“We appreciated the speed at which Minister Frydenberg grasped the potential of resources in SA to contribute to the national economy and for including us in that funding,” said Mr Kuchel.

SACOME also looks forward to continuing to work with the Hon Josh Frydenberg in his new capacity as the Minister for the Environment and Energy.
