SACOME welcomes response to review

The South Australian Chamber of Mines & Energy (SACOME) welcomes the release of the results of the consultation and engagement process around the Leading Practice Mining Acts Review.

CEO Rebecca Knol described it as a “fantastic example of cross-sector involvement” and reflective of the State Government’s vision to ensure future community benefits through a more efficient and transparent regulatory framework.

“SACOME applauds the open and extensive consultation process that has been undertaken to renew this significant piece of legislation for the benefit of all South Australians,” she said.

“The economic prosperity of the State depends on all parties working across sectors to maximise the return on our diverse resources.”

SACOME is pleased that the majority of policy directions released on Friday were addressed in its original submission in March, which also included constructive recommendations on these points.

Within the review process, SACOME has initiated discussions with other interested parties on key issues and looks forward to continued open dialogue.

“South Australia has the opportunity to enact leading-practice mining legislation so it is encouraging to see that responses have been received by so many individuals and organisations outside of the resources sector,” Ms Knol said.
