Awards recognise those leading the advancement of women in SA's resources sector

The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) is pleased to announce that nominations for the 2016 South Australian Women in Resources Awards will open on Monday, 18 January 2016.

These awards recognise the important role women play in the resources sector through five key categories:
  1. Exceptional woman in South Australian resources
  2. Gender Diversity Champion in South Australian resources
  3. Excellence in Diversity Programs and Performance
  4. Outstanding South Australian tradeswomen, operator or technician
  5. Exceptional young woman in South Australian resources
As part of SACOME’s gender diversity strategy to increase the participation of women in the exploration, mineral, petroleum and energy sectors and associated service industries, these state based awards are designed to recognise individuals and organisations playing a lead role in the advancement of women in the resources sector.

Jason Kuchel, Chief Executive of the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) said “Following on from SA’s success at the National Women in Resources Awards last year, SACOME are looking forward to unearthing more exceptional local talent. These awards help to further women’s role in the sector by recognising a cohort of ambassadors, mentors and role models who are instrumental in encouraging and promoting, attracting and retaining women in the sector.”

The South Australian Women in Resources Awards recognise and celebrate the contributions and achievements of women and those supporting women in South Australia. The entry process encourages individuals and companies to reflect on their achievements and the impact they have made to help encourage the participation of women.

Lucy McEwen, Chair of the Women in Resources South Australia Committee said “Women continue to make a valuable contribution to the sector and the introduction of the SA Women in Resources awards last year were a great way to recognise this. Acknowledging the efforts of individuals and organisations further supports our aim to increase the participation of women in the sector.”

Mr Kuchel added that SACOME strongly encourage members, including service providers, to nominate for the South Australian Women in Resources Awards.

Nominations for the 2016 South Australian Women in Resources Awards open officially on Monday, 18 January 2016 and close at 5pm on Friday, 4 March 2016, with winners to be announced at SACOME’s Lunch Series event on Thursday, 19 May 2016.

Winners of each category will be automatically nominated by SACOME on behalf of South Australia for the National Women in Resources Awards, to be held in Adelaide on 1 September 2016. In 2015, SA finalists were successful in winning three of the five National Awards.
