The South Australian Resource Sector is the backbone of the South Australian economy.
SACOME regularly surveys a sample of its members to calculate their contribution to the State's economy through jobs, wages,
expenditure with local businesses and community organisations, and royalties and payments State and Local Governments. Our latest 2021-22 Economic Contribution Analysis provides a unique snapshot of South Australia’s largest export industry and clearly demonstrates the significant contribution made by 15 of SACOME’s member companies: Adbri, Adchem, Beach Energy, BHP, Boss Energy, Cooper Energy, FMG Resources, Heathgate, Hillgrove Resources, Iluka Resources, Nyrstar Port Pirie, OZ Minerals, Rex Minerals, Santos and SIMEC Mining. |

15 SACOME members generated a record $10.7 billion in direct and indirect spending to the South Australian economy in 2021/22.
This represents a 81% uplift from the last economic report conducted in 2019-20 which recorded $5.9 billion in direct and indirect spending.

While many operations are regionally based, the economic contribution of the resources sector has a whole-of-state benefit, supporting jobs, community groups and suppliers across the State and all the way to the CBD. Importantly, the data shows the resource sectors contribution to not only regional communities but also inner-Adelaide, with eight of the top ten electorates benefiting from the resource sector located in the metropolitan area. Resource companies are not only underpinning the South Australian economy, they are also providing vital jobs, supporting local suppliers, enabling critical public infrastructure and directly funding a wide range of community programs and services.
