Rex Minerals and OZ Minerals commit to sustainable development in South Australia
Rex Minerals and OZ Minerals sign SACOME Code of Conduct for the SA resources sector

The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) has welcomed Rex Minerals and OZ Minerals as signatories to the South Australian resources sector Code of Conduct. In signing up to the voluntary Code of Conduct, these companies have demonstrated their commitment to sustainable development and continuous improvement in South Australia.

Since the discovery of copper-gold mineralisation in 2008, Rex Minerals has been delineating the resource and undertaking studies with a view to developing the Hillside project.
OZ Minerals is a copper-focused, global, modern mining company based in South Australia. It owns and operates the copper-gold mine at Prominent Hill and is developing one of Australia’s largest copper-gold resources at Carrapateena.

SACOME CEO, Rebecca Knol said: “We are delighted to welcome these leading mineral companies as signatories to our Code of Conduct. SACOME’s Code of Conduct aims to shine a spotlight on resource companies committed to best practice and sector leadership”.

SACOME’s Code of Conduct provides a structure for mining, oil and gas companies to improve their practices in areas such as ethical governance, sound risk management, stakeholder engagement, health and safety, employee rights, community development and environmental management.

Rex Minerals Chief Executive Officer, Richard Laufmann said, “Rex Minerals is pleased to meet the high standards of performance across the Code of Conduct’s principles and demonstrate our leadership and commitment to continuous improvement. This is an excellent initiative and one that we are proud to sign up to.”

Andrew Cole, Chief Executive Officer, OZ Minerals said, “OZ Minerals is a modern mining company focused on creating value for our key stakeholders. Signing SACOME’s Code of Conduct is a means of demonstrating our intent in this regard. Having a sound governance framework including publicly available performance standards is an important foundation for our company as we grow and as we develop a culture of collaboration and innovation.”

Rex Minerals and OZ Minerals join SIMEC Mining as signatories to the Code of Conduct, which was launched in March 2019.
