Bushfire Recovery

The impact of ongoing bushfires across Australia has been devastating. Our hearts go out to all those affected and we acknowledge the bravery and outstanding efforts of firefighters and emergency service personnel. 

SACOME has been heartened by the support our members are providing to those affected by the bushfires, and we recognise these contributions here:

  • Staff volunteers providing the equivalent of 31 work days supporting property owners in the Adelaide Hills, removing damaged farm fences, laying irrigation pipes to affected vineyards and installing tree guards.

Picture
Initial package of $1 million to support bushfire-affected customers and communities. Includes:
  • $300,000 to volunteer fire services across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, with a further $100,000 set aside to match employee donations.
  • $500,000 to support local community services and home loan customers who have lost their homes and are suffering ongoing financial hardship.
  • Continued double-matching of employee donations to key community partners Foodbank Australia, The Australian Red Cross and WWF.
  • Contribution to Tennis Australia’s ‘Aces for Bushfire Relief’ initiative running throughout the Australian Open.
Additional support includes:
  • Mobile ATMs at Bairnsdale Oval and other centres for access to cash.
  • Extra cash provisions for ATMs in communities bordering fire-affected regions.
  • Hardship support for customers through referral and funding to appropriate community counselling services.
  • Proactive contact with small business customers in affected areas.
ANZ insurance partner QBE will prioritise claims, offer emergency payments and provide alternative temporary accommodation costs where needed.

  • $2 million to the Australian Red Cross as part of the national relief effort plus local contributions.
  • $500,000 donation to be evenly distributed between Zoos Victoria and the WIRES Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation to assist with bushfire relief efforts.
  • In SA, Olympic Dam is providing $100,000 to the CFS Foundation.

  • Donated bins and services to support clean-up and recovery efforts.
  • Financial donations to bushfire appeal charities.
  • Matching staff donations.
  • Support for employees who have been impacted by the bushfires and those volunteering.
  • Support for customers impacted by the bushfires.

  • Donations have been made to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund and the Orbost and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry to fund redeemable vouchers for use by residents in need, as well as the Country Fire Authority in Victoria and Wildlife Victoria.
  • Consulting with local authorities on how additional financial and other support is best directed.
  • ​As a participant in the Orbost and East Gippsland community, Cooper Energy will contribute to the region’s recovery and rebuild.

  • ​Encouraging our employees to visit and support Kangaroo Island tourism over the coming months by contributing to their ferry transport costs.
  • Financial donation to KI Mayoral Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund.

  • ​Uncapped volunteer leave for all volunteer firefighters, emergency personnel and Army reservists. 
  • $100,000 donation so far.
  • Will match employee donations to bushfire relief and recovery.

  • $25,000 donation to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Appeal to assist with the national response and recovery.

  • $250,000 personal donation by Sanjeev Gupta to the Wollondilly Mayoral Fund, south-west of Sydney.
  • Sanjeev to personally match staff donations.
  • Additional money matched by Sanjeev to be donated to and managed by the GFG Foundation, which will work directly with leading charities and on-the-ground community organisations in bushfire-affected areas.

  • 20 days of paid leave for employee bushfire volunteers and ADF reservists.
  • Will match donations made by employees.
  • Provision of pro bono legal services to those impacted.

  • Has partnered with National Parks and Wildlife Service to establish the Wildlife Recovery Fund, which has raised more than $280,000. Click here for further information and to provide support.

  • $80,000 donation to the Kangaroo Island and Adelaide Hills CFS brigades.
  • $20,000 to the Nature Foundation’s and National Parks and Wildlife Service’s Wildlife Recovery Fund.
  • Matching site and office fundraising efforts.
  • Additional community leave to assist local communities in the rebuilding process and for volunteer fire-fighting.

Donation of $600,000 to bushfire emergency relief and recovery. Includes:
  • $300,000 to the South Australian Government's Bushfire Appeal, which is raising funds for people directly affected by bushfires in Cudlee Creek and on Kangaroo Island.
  • $50,000 to Adelaide Koala Rescue.
  • $250,000 to Lifeline Australia's Community Recovery Program.
  • Matching staff donations.
  • Paid leave for CFS volunteer employees and support for Defence Force Reservist employees.
  • Working with authorities to make resources and infrastructure available to assist with emergency management.
