SACOME Membership
As the leading industry association representing the resources and energy sector, SACOME has a diverse membership ranging from industry operators to service companies. Since 2018, we have been proudly independent of government financial support which enables us to advocate on behalf of our member companies with true independence.
Benefits of SACOME membership
Strategic Vision
SACOME is currently working on its 2030 Vision, building on the 2024 Vision: a five-year strategic vision for the sector, which was launched in 2019. Responding to community polling on the vision, SACOME launched Resourceful SA a 32-page magazine lift out in The Advertiser with an online digital edition designed to increase the public's general knowledge of the industry and champion the South Australian resources sector. This general awareness campaign increased overall support for our sector with a particular improvement in youth support. This campaign has been reinvigorated in 2024 and is being showcased on our website, as well as on buses, trams, bus shelters and social media.
Advocacy
SACOME liaises with all levels of Government and relevant stakeholders for the continued development of the resources sector. This includes advocating for our 2024 Priorities, which are informed by close consultation with members and set out the actions and bipartisan policy commitments sought by the sector. Our priorities align with the sector’s 2024 Vision and maintain a focus on impactful, strategic and long-term outcomes that require cohesive leadership, a continued focus on supporting economic growth, improving regulatory outcomes and addressing skill shortages. Drawing on feedback from members, SACOME regularly make submissions to the government on behalf of the sector.
Research
Our South Australian Economic Contribution study analysed spending patterns of 15 major operating member companies throughout 2021/22, and found that these companies contributed $10.7 billion in direct & indirect spending to SA - the equivalent of $1 in every $12. Additionally, these companies support the full-time employment of 42,832 South Australians, 1 in every 14 full-time jobs in South Australia.
Committees
Committees are one of the ways that members derive value from their membership. We host eight bi-monthly committees. The Committees are: Mining & Extractives, Petroleum, Energy, Infrastructure, Exploration and Development, Legislation & Regulation, External Affairs, and Economics & Tax. A recent Member survey concluded that 98% of participants find the meetings beneficial.
Communication
SACOME communicates regularly with members, through monthly newsletters and emails, in addition to media coverage on priority issues.
Campaigns
In addition to the 2024 Resourceful SA campaign, in 2021 SACOME launched a youth campaign: Resources. But not as you know it. Its purpose was to educate a youth demographic on the ecosystem of jobs available in the resources sector, targeting school leavers, apprentices, and university graduates at the start of their career journey. The campaign continued through 2022 and 2023 with over 9 million impressions and 410,000 video views. It will be a feature of our campaigning again in 2025.
Events
SACOME hosts several exclusive members-only events throughout the year, providing a platform to network and engage with other members and key stakeholders. These include one of our premier events of the year, the Annual Resources Sector Dinner, CEO Events such as the South Australian Forecast Breakfast which provides an opportunity for SACOME members to hear from the Chief Executives of key State Government departments, their priorities for the year ahead and the forecast for SA, and an AGM lunch towards the end of the year.
