Economic contribution of the resources industry to South Australia
SACOME member companies are the powerhouse of the South Australian economy.
SACOME surveys a sample of its members annually to estimate the contribution of the South Australian resources sector to the State economy through the payment of wages and salaries, business purchases, community contributions and payments to government.
The 2019-20 Economic Contribution Study provides a unique snapshot of South Australia's largest export industry and clearly demonstrates the significant contribution that is made to the South Australian economy by 12 of our member companies: Adbri Ltd, Beach Energy, BHP, Boss Resources, Cooper Energy, Heathgate Resources, Iluka Resources, Nyrstar, OZ Minerals, Santos, Senex and SIMEC Mining.
The 2019-20 study found that our member companies contributed $5.9 million in direct and indirect spending to the South Australian economy in 2019/20 financial year. This is equivalent of 5.3% of Gross State Product, with one dollar in every twenty created by the South Australian resources sector. Watch the story televised on Channel 7 news bulletin here
