Joy Baluch Bridge Contracts Awarded
The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) welcomes the awarding of contracts by the State Government for works to commence on the duplication of the Joy Baluch AM Bridge in Port Augusta.
SACOME is pleased that its extensive lobbying in partnership with the South Australian Freight Council (SAFC) and the Royal Automobile Association (RAA) has resulted in government investment in this critical economic infrastructure.
Port Augusta is one of Australia’s most strategically important transport corridors, sitting at the heart of the nation’s east-west and north-south freight routes.
Port Augusta is also a hub for South Australia’s mineral-rich far north and western regions, with the projected growth of these provinces expected to exert further pressure on this infrastructure bottleneck.
SACOME CEO, Rebecca Knol said “The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy welcomes the awarding of contracts for works to commence on the long-anticipated duplication of the Joy Baluch AM Bridge.”
“The duplication of the Joy Baluch AM Bridge is a key infrastructure priority for SACOME and an example of a major infrastructure project that benefits both the resources sector and the wider community.”
“We extend thanks to our allied peak industry bodies - the SAFC and RAA – along with the Port Augusta City Council for working in partnership to deliver funding for the duplication of the Joy Baluch Bridge and look forward to its completion in 2021.”
