SACOME budget priorities for economic growth

The South Australian 2019-20 State Budget is looming large on the horizon.

The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) member companies are the cornerstone of the South Australian economy and share common objectives of state economic development and job creation with the South Australian Government.

SACOME will be lobbying for the following nine priorities aimed at driving resources exploration and development, further boosting the South Australian economy and creating jobs.

  • Mineral Exploration Incentive
  • Gas Acceleration Program
  • Critical Commodities Strategy
  • Regional Province Development
  • Augusta Highway Duplication
  • Energy Storage Funding
  • Battery Circular Economy and PV Solar Panel Recycling
  • Federal/State Approvals
  • Mining Act Approvals

SACOME CEO Rebecca Knol said “the South Australian resource sector is the engine room of the South Australian economy employing 12,000 people, delivering $5.6 billion in production, almost $4 billion in exports and $237 million in royalties to South Australians.

These economic outcomes are the result of bi-partisan parliamentary support for the resources sector.

Today, SACOME submits a range of Budget initiatives that aim to promote the future economic well-being of the State through driving critical investment in mineral and gas exploration; strategically mapping infrastructure requirements for resources province development; establishing new battery and photovoltaic panel recycling industries; modernising the Mining Act 1971 and harmonising State/Federal approvals processes.

SACOME and its members remain committed to working collaboratively with the South Australian Government to achieve economic prosperity for the State and its residents.”
