Shadow Resources Minister retires
The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) wishes to congratulate and thank the retiring Shadow Minister for Resources and Energy, The Hon Gary Gray AO MP, for his public service as the Member for Brand and more particularly in his roles as Minister and Shadow Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy.
His outstanding contribution to the resources sector over many years including his interest and advocacy for South Australia, his home State, stand as a testament to his integrity and passion for the industry.
Jason Kuchel, Chief Executive of SACOME, said “It has been a pleasure over the years to work with Gary. His immense knowledge of the sector and selfless attitude has been for the better of our State and Australian politics.”
“I am sure that in retirement Gary will continue to contribute to our national interest,” said Mr Kuchel.
Gary maintained a genuine interest in the South Australian resources sector and the prosperity of its regions, with a personal interest in Whyalla where he attended high school. His first job followed in the local BHP steel works at the time.
Speaking on a panel at a SACOME lunch event in February last year, Gary’s skill in understanding and communicating the contributions of South Australia’s resources sector, its impact on regional growth, and the local challenges of the sector here were valued by guests.
“The South Australian resources industry appreciates Gary as a passionate resources Minister and one who has the nation’s best interests at heart,” said Mr Kuchel. “We look forward to an ongoing dialogue with Gary in his future endeavours.”
