South Australia set to contribute to Australia's energy security and prosperity
Australia is on the cusp of the discovery of oil and gas in off shore South Australia, which would deliver long term benefits to the South Australian economy and contribute to Australia's energy security requirements.
Hearings of the Senate Environment and Communications References Committee ‘Inquiry into oil or gas production in the Great Australian Bight’ in Adelaide highlighted that the opposing parties who appeared today are philosophically opposed to any oil and gas production anywhere.
Jason Kuchel Chief Executive of SACOME said global energy demand continues to grow at an outstanding pace and whilst renewable energy is a growing part of the energy mix, there is no denying the critical role that gas plays as a recognised transition fuel to a low carbon economy.
"The reality is that the Australian Oil and Gas Industry has demonstrated an excellent track record of safely extracting oil and gas for significant economic benefit to Australia under one of the best practice regulatory systems in the world. New technology and learnings continue to make the industry safer for people, the environment and local communities.”
“Our experience is that local communities on the Eyre Peninsula and greater South Australia welcome a new safe and sustainable oil and gas province and the opportunities that will bring for jobs creation, social infrastructure, strengthening of local communities and broader economic benefit,” said Mr Kuchel.
