South Australian Resources Sector Looks to the Future
South Australian Chamber of Mines & Energy launch five-year vision for the sector
The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) has launched a vision for the resources sector. Unveiled at the annual Resources Sector Dinner last night (22 May), the ‘2024 Vision’ outlines seven goals for the South Australian Resources Sector to secure the future prosperity and success of this vital industry.
Rebecca Knol, Chief Executive Officer, SACOME said “The South Australian resources sector underpins the State’s economy and contributes to 33% of our exports. In addition to funding our schools, hospitals and roads, resources companies and their suppliers employ over 26,000 people.
“From the bronze age, through industrialisation and into the technology revolution, our sector has not only underpinned innovation, it has fuelled it. The resources sector provides the materials that are allowing the world to push the boundaries of science”.
The ‘2024 Vision’ outlines key areas of strategic focus; land access, communication, community engagement, transparency and disclosure, inclusion and diversity, electricity affordability, and infrastructure. It shines a spotlight on the progress made in the South Australian resource sector, provides examples of best practice and celebrates the history of this strong and resilient sector.
It is to the benefit of every South Australian that the resources sector is profitable; that it is supported by communities and governments; that it is recognised as an instigator of innovation; that it is seen as a desirable employer for our most talented minds; that it continues to have positive impacts on regional communities and be environmentally responsible.
The ‘2024 Vision’ is available online here.
