Statutes Amendment (Mineral Resources) Bill 2018
Proposed Amendments Shelved
The South Australian Chamber of Mines & Energy (SACOME) acknowledges Minister van Holst Pellekaan’s statement made at the SAREIC conference today that the Statutes Amendment (Mineral Resources) Bill 2018 has been shelved.
SACOME has worked with all parties and stakeholders to progress this Bill for three years and will continue to advocate for improvement.
SACOME Chief Executive Officer, Rebecca Knol said; “The modernisation of this 47-year-old piece of legislation is essential to improving practice to reflect the standards expected from our minerals sector.
“SACOME will continue to support the consultation and negotiations required to reform the oldest mining legislation in the country and ensure it is fit for our modern mining industry and upholds the behavioural practices demanded by the South Australian public.
“We look forward to being part of ongoing reform of the State’s mining laws and remain committed to working collaboratively with the South Australian Government and all stakeholders to ensure that standards continue to improve, and that mining and agriculture sectors can sustainably co-exist.”
